U.S.-China Friendship Volunteers program

The U.S.-China Friendship Volunteers program is an inter-governmental cooperative program between China and the U.S. The two sides reached an agreement in principle in 1988 on the sending of Peace Corps volunteers by the U.S. to teach in China. On June 29th, 1998, the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) and its U.S. counterpart signed in Beijing the Agreement Between the Government of the Unite States of America and the Government of the People's Republic of China Concerning the United States Volunteer Program in China.

The program is coordinated by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, administered by the MOE, and implemented by the China Educational Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). According to the Agreement, U.S. volunteers mainly teach Basic English and courses related to environmental protection in the host colleges in four Western provinces (or Municipality) of Sichuan, Chongqing (Municipality), Guizhou and Gansu.
