Objective:
Strengthening Capacity in Basic Education in Western China (SCBEWC)
is a bi-lateral project between the Government of the People's Republic
of China and Canada. It supports the goal of the Chinese Government
to improve the quality and relevance of, and access to, basic education
in the Western poverty-stricken regions. The Project purpose is
to strengthen basic education through enhanced teacher training
systems using distance education in selected poorer counties of
Western
China.Project Partners:
Implementation of this 5-year (2003-2007) project is the responsibility
of the National Center for Educational Technology (NCET), an agency
of the Chinese Ministry of Education and a consortium of Canadian
organizations lead by Agriteam Canada Ltd. and including Alberta
Learning, the University of Calgary, Athabasca University and the
University of Alberta.
Project Counties:
Yuanzhou (in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region), Xiji (in Ningxia Hui
Autonomous Region), Tianquan (in Sichuan Province), Kangding (in
Sichuan Province), Shanshan (in Xinjiang Uygher Autonomous Region),
Altay (in Xinjiang Uygher Autonomous Region).
Project Funding:
Canada invests 12 million Canadian Dollars and China invests 118.278
million RMB yuan.
